How would you describe the work you do and why?
I have a background in textiles and graphic design. I enjoy precision work on a small scale, so block printing fabrics, and creating unique jewellery pieces from my own fabrics ticks all the boxes for me.
For you what does being an artist mean?:
I can't imagine a life without the pleasure of making things. Perfecting technique and developing my own style is so rewarding.
Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:
I'm Alison and my business is 'Hand Print and Stitch'.
Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:
All my pieces are designed, worked and completed by me in my Herefordshire studio.
CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:
As a designer in the print industry I honed my computer design skills which have proved invaluable in my own practice. But, on a whim, taking a City & Guilds certificate in creative embroidery was the point from which my lifelong love of textiles became more important to me. Marrying print with textiles came naturally and led to my current work.
